Ergonomic
Gold Touch keyboard which is an alternative split designed keyboard. A ball joint design allows the right and left sections to be fanned apart or tilted and locked into position with a lever. By raising the two keyboard segments in the centre, users are able to position their hands in a natural "repose" position. Research has shown there to be some benefits from using this keyboard and the following is a quotation on medical benefits. Placing the hands in this natural repose position while keyboarding has proven to help reduce ulnar pronation and deviation.
The desired result therefore, is a reduction in unnecessary muscle involvement, a decrease in fatigue and tension and improvement in blood circulation through the hands.
Keys require only mild activation pressure. Amanda was concerned that the keys would require only a light touch. Amanda found that the keys did not have the slight dip of her existing keyboard and it was also smaller enabling the mouse to be closer. One advantage is that it doesn’t have a number pad and this would need to be used separately which would enable Amanda to have the number pad directly in front of her when entering numbers and gives the keyboard the advantage of being compact and enabling the mouse to be in much closer.
Available from keytools at a cost of £139 excl. (April 2005)
Be Aware
I had a call from an owner saying that when she turned her PC on, it went to a blue screen. I thought she meant the blue screen of death. She had taken it to a shop, but they couldn't find a fault. I picked it up without trying it on site and put it on test for a few hours. No problems. I took it back and reconnected everything. When I turned it on, it went straight to the Bios screen. The keyboard was faulty and of course neither the original shop or myself had used the owners keyboard while we had it on test. Also had a similar situation with a mouse once as well so be aware of this as a fault potential.
