The Grid
The Grid has a range of onscreen keyboards with different layouts. They are fully customisable and have inbuilt word prediction.
The Grid provides communication with text or symbols, and complete access to a Windows computer system using switches, pointing devices or a keyboard. It supports between 1 and 8 switches, and has a comprehensive range of switch options.
The Grid uses scanning to select cells. Cells are highlighted in turn, and when the correct cell is highlighted, the user presses their switch. There are many tools to speed this process up, including block scanning, row-column and column-row scanning and overscan, and the scanning can advance automatically, when the switch is held, or when the switch is tapped. Actions can also be assigned to secondary switches such as accept, cancel, reverse scan and directional scanning for users with many switches.
There are several keyboards, including qwerty, full qwerty, high frequency and communication.
There are also pre-customised grids for use with Windows applications such as Media Player.
The Grid is available at £240 from Sensory Software International Ltd http://www.sensorysoftware.com 26 Abbey Road Malvern WR14 3HD Tel: 01684 578868 Fax: 01684 897753 Email: info@sensorysoftware.com
When using switch as the main method of access we would always recommend the Grid. If however a pointing device/mouse is used then some other on-screen keyboards are comparable. I would still consider the Grid the best value for money and the most highly customisable option.
