Appearance of Text and Backgrounds
There are a range of factsheets and skillsheets available online at the Abilitynet website to help with making changes within the operating system which are panoramic and application specific changes which effect the application being used. (Some of the relevant fact sheets and skill sheets are also available on the CD)
Simple changes in the operating system can affect the way fonts are displayed and the colour schemes. These changes can be saved as a scheme and can be transferred from machine to machine.
If administrative rights are required or other people are using the machine then it can be important to save the settings as a specific profile or scheme. Alternatively a free programme such as ~Screen-Tinter Lite can be helpful.

is free and simplifies the process of making colour changes. It enables the user to rapidly select the preferred screen colour at the click of a button so that all applications running under Windows appear with the preferred background colour. It can be reset very easily. The software is shareware and free to download from web

ScreenRuler
http://www.sonantsoft.com/index.php?Name=Screen_Magnification&cPath=167 ScreenRuler (claro software) is a new strip magnifier which allows part of the PC screen to be highlighted in a horizontal band. This will assist anyone with viewing and concentrating on text or objects. It provides a "strip" or "ruler" across the screen, which can be magnified, can have the contrast changed and have the background "greyed" or dimmed out if desired. The cursor color can also be changed easily. ScreenRuler will work with any piece of software, as it acts as an "overlay" on the PC screen.
From a technical point of view, it should not interfere or clash with your PC video card. costs £39.95 Specification
