Word Web

Wordweb is free for individual use and is available to download from http://wordweb.info/free/ It is stable and reliable.

When browsing some vocabulary is likely to prove difficult to understand or read. I would recommend a free combined dictionary and thesaurus that sits in the system tray which makes it very easy to use with a simple mouse click. It copes with a more varied vocabulary than the Microsoft dictionary and offers synonyms and detailed definitions. It offers a phonetic pronunciation of the word as well. To use it the word can either be typed in or can be instantly entered by having the text insertion point on the word in question and then opening wordweb. The professional version of word web costs £11 and enables the user to have their own glossary and to enter wild cards or question marks if the user isn’t sure about the spelling of the word.

Word Prediction

Let Me Type

Word prediction- Let me Type (original text)

Word prediction can be very useful for word endings and complex words. It needs to be customised to the needs of the individual and it is essential that ‘learn as you type’ is turned off when dyslexic spellers are about.

Let Me Type is a free programme available online from http://www.clasohm.com/lmt/en/ I like it because the appearance is fully customisable and you can restrict the vocabulary it predicts.

The suggestion window (offers the predicted word which can be inserted by typing the number next to it. The window can be placed where you want by clicking on it and checking the which ever positioning option wanted. . and the colours and fonts can be customised in the Let me Type property window. Let Me Type can live in the system tray where a left click opens the default let me type menu and a right click opens some options which includes configuration for vocabulary learnt.

Left click on the system tray icon to access The default let me type settings window where options are found for the prediction dictionary and the appearance for the Suggestions Window.

System tray icons. Turn off learn words and a red bar appears across the icon. A red x appears if suggest is unchecked.

Let me Type suggestions panes fully customisable. They can be positioned according to preference.

The file menu of the Default let me type menu has the facility to merge dictionaries and to import text. Prepare text wanted then save it as a text file. Import text then brings it into the prediction window word list. Words can be edited from here. If you want to see a list of the errors being made turn on learn words and attempts at words will be recorded. A caveat is that passwords can also be recorded turn off the option in the settings menu vocabulary property sheet by checking the box next to Ignore password fields.
